The Slab, Which Is Most of It
Preparation is the majority of the labour on every job we take, so the condition of your concrete is the biggest single line in the quote.
Grinding is not optional and it is not etching
We take the slab back to bare concrete with a diamond grinder. A quote that skips this is cheaper because it is a different job, and it is the job that lifts.
Cracks and pitting are filled before anything goes down
Every crack is chased out and filled. A slab with a lot of them takes longer, and that time is in the number you are given.
An old coating has to come off
If something is already down there, removing it is work that happens before the work you are paying for starts. We check for it at the visit.
The Size, Measured Rather Than Estimated
Rate times area is the part everybody expects, and it is the part we can give you before we visit.
Area is the part you can work out yourself
Length times width of what is actually being coated. The rate falls as the floor grows, so a bigger floor costs less per square foot than a small one.

Small floors carry a setup cost either way
There is a size below which a job costs what it costs to turn up and set up, so it is quoted as a job rather than by the foot. Brad tells you which basis yours is on.
The System, Which Is a Specification Not a Preference
Which resin goes down is decided by the room, and it does change the number.
Flake and solid colour sit at one end
They are what most garages get and they are the lower end of the range.
Metallic costs more in time as well as material
We work it by hand while the resin is still moving, so the labour is different rather than the material being dearer.
A polyaspartic top coat is what buys you speed
It is what makes a fast turnaround possible and it is what goes down when the weather will not let epoxy cure.
Access, Which Nobody Thinks About
It does not change the floor and it changes the day.
Where we can park and how far we carry
A basement at the back of a house is a different day from a garage we can back up to, and that is in the quote.
Power and water
The grinder needs a supply. On most jobs this is nothing; occasionally it is a generator.
Whether the room is clear when we arrive
This is the one you control. A floor we cannot get to is a day we cannot use.
Stairs, thresholds and a single doorway
Everything we bring in comes through the same gap it goes out of. A grinder and a vacuum down a flight of stairs is slower than the same pair wheeled through a garage door, and the difference is hours rather than minutes. We look at the route at the visit and it goes into the number then, so nothing about it turns up as an extra afterwards.

Why is one quote thousands more than another?
Almost always preparation. Ask each contractor what they will do to the slab before anything goes down, in words rather than as a line item, and the gap usually explains itself.
Do you charge for the quote?
No. Brad comes out, looks at the concrete and gives you a number. There is nothing to sign.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
Tell us the room and roughly how big it is and Brad will talk you through the range. The written quote follows the visit, because the slab is what we have not seen yet.
Does the colour change the price?
Only in that metallic is worked by hand and flake is broadcast. Within a system, one colour costs what another costs.
Is a bigger floor cheaper per square foot?
Setting up costs the same whether the floor is small or large, so that fixed part is spread thinner on a bigger job. The rate itself is the rate. That is also why there is a minimum, and it is published with the rates rather than mentioned at the end.
