How long does a resin floor last?
Longer than you expect if we prepared your slab properly, and not long at all if somebody did not.
Preparation decides it
A coating bonded to properly ground concrete stays bonded. One on a slab that was rinsed and rolled will lift, and it lifts at your edges first.
Traffic wears the top coat
The top coat is the sacrificial layer, and it is also the part that can be renewed without redoing the floor. That is worth knowing before you assume a worn floor needs replacing.
What is hot tire pickup?
This is what people mean when they tell you an epoxy floor peeled.
What happens
A warm tire parked on a poorly bonded coating softens it and lifts it when the car moves. You get a patch of missing floor exactly the shape of the tire.
Why a proper system does not do it
It is a bond failure rather than a material failure. Ground concrete and the right primer give your tire nothing to lift.

Can you coat a cracked or damp slab?
Your cracks we can usually deal with. Your damp we answer first, before anything else.
Cracks
Cut, filled and ground flat, a static crack in your slab stays filled. A crack that is still moving will telegraph through eventually, and Brad will tell you that at the quote rather than let you find out later.
Damp
Moisture moving up through your slab is what lifts coatings off it. Test it before you buy anything, by taping down a square of plastic sheet, leaving it a day, and looking for condensation underneath.
Preparation and Slab Questions
The questions that decide whether your floor lasts. Ask them before you ask anyone about color.
Does my slab need grinding, or can it be etched?
Ground. Acid etching and pressure washing do not open your concrete the way a diamond grinder does, and a coating bonded to a surface film lifts.
What if there is paint or an old coating on it?
It comes off in the preparation we do first. A previously coated slab takes us longer than a bare one, and that is usually the biggest single difference between the two quotes you are holding.
Can you coat over tile or adhesive?
We take your tile and the adhesive off first. Coating over adhesive is a bond failure waiting to happen.
How do I know if my slab is damp?
Tape a square of plastic sheet down, seal all four edges, wait a day and look underneath. It costs nothing and it is the most useful thing you can do before you start taking quotes.

How long will I be without the space?
More than a day and less than you are fearing. Walk-on comes before drive-on, and both depend on the system and the temperature.
Can it be done in winter?
Often, and we may change the system to do it. Polyaspartic keeps curing at temperatures where epoxy becomes unreliable on us.
How much dust is there?
Far less than you expect, because our grinder runs with vacuum extraction as it works. It is still a work site for the day.
Do I need to be home?
Ideally for the walkthrough at the start, and you do not need to be there for the rest of the job.

How much does it cost?

How long before I can use the floor?
Walking comes well before parking, and both depend on the system and the temperature. Brad gives you both numbers when he quotes.
Do I have to empty the room?
Yes, because we have to reach your floor end to end to grind it.
Will it be slippery?
Only if we specify it that way. Tell Brad if your floor gets wet and we will put more grit into the top coat.
Can you match a color?
Base colors yes, and a metallic pattern no, because it forms while the resin is moving and we cannot repeat it for you.
Do you offer a warranty?
Ask Brad what is covered on your specific job. It depends on the system and the substrate, so a blanket answer on a website would be the wrong one.
How long does an epoxy floor last?
On a properly ground and bonded slab, many years of your normal use. What wears is the top coat, and we renew a top coat without redoing the floor.
What is hot tire pickup?
A warm tire lifting a poorly bonded coating when you move the car. It is a bond failure and it does not happen on a floor we prepared properly.
Can you coat a cracked slab?
Usually, once we have cut, filled and ground your cracks flat. A crack that is still moving will eventually telegraph through, and Brad will tell you so.
Is epoxy flooring slippery?
Only if we specify it that way. We put grit into the top coat wherever your floor gets wet.
Can I do it myself with a kit?
A kit is a thin coating rolled onto an etched slab. It is a real option for a floor you do not mind redoing, and it is not the same product.
