An oil-soaked Naugatuck garage, back to a clean flake floor.
An oversize two-car garage in Naugatuck, 650 square feet, with oil soaked deep into the slab. We diamond ground the stains out, repaired the cracks and divots, then put down a gray Gladiator commercial-grade vapor barrier, Cabin Fever acrylic flake and a Polyaspartic 90 topcoat. Drag the slider to compare the floor before and after.

Same garage, same doorway
We took both photographs from the garage door, one before we started and one after we finished. Drag the handle across.
What the slab looked like when we got there
Dark oil patches ran across the middle of the floor where the cars had parked, and the concrete had cracks and divots of its own.
Oil soaks into concrete
Concrete is porous, and oil sinks into it. A coating laid over that has nothing clean to grip, which is where peeling starts, and scrubbing the surface doesn't reach it.
The slab had damage too
Cracks and divots had to be dealt with before anything went on top. A coating follows the surface under it, so a dip in the concrete would have stayed a dip in the finished floor.
How we got it back to clean concrete
Most of the work on this floor happened before any color went down, and none of it shows in the after photo.
Diamond ground the whole floor
We diamond ground the slab before anything else, which takes off the stained top layer and leaves fresh, open concrete for the first coat to bond to.
Repaired the cracks and divots
Every crack and divot was filled and leveled, so the finished floor is one flat surface.
A trained crew on every step
The people grinding, repairing and coating this floor were all skilled, trained installers.
Three layers, each doing one job
What went down on the ground concrete, from the bottom up.
Gladiator commercial-grade vapor barrier, in gray
The base coat bonds to the ground concrete and works as a vapor barrier, holding back moisture coming up through the slab.
Cabin Fever acrylic flake
High-grade acrylic flake, broadcast into the base. The speckle keeps dust and the odd drip from standing out the way they would on a solid color.
Polyaspartic 90 topcoat
The clear coat over the flake. It seals the chips in, takes the tire traffic, and it's where the shine in the photos comes from.

Questions people ask
Can a garage floor this stained still be coated?
This one was. Diamond grinding took the oil out, and the cracks and divots were repaired before the base coat went down. Send us a photo of your own slab when you ask for a quote and we'll tell you what it needs.
What is Cabin Fever?
The name of the acrylic flake blend on this floor. Up close it's grays, white and black; from across the garage it looks like one light gray.
What would a floor like this cost me?
That depends on the size of your garage and how much work the slab needs first, and this one needed a lot. Ask for a free quote and we'll price your floor.
